India Slashes “Zero-Dose” Children Rate, Earns Global Applause

India’s immunisation efforts have hit a major milestone. The percentage of children receiving no vaccines at all (“zero-dose”) dropped from 0.11% in 2023 to 0.06% in 2024, according to the Health Ministry. This earned India the Measles & Rubella Champion Award in Washington, D.C.
Efforts like Mission Indradhanush and targeted interventions under the Zero-Dose Implementation Plan were key.
Bonus wins:

  • Under-5 mortality ↓ by 78%
  • Neonatal mortality ↓ by 70%
  • Maternal mortality now 80–88 per lakh
