Smile Crisis: 90% of Indians Have Dental Issues & Only 9% See a Dentist

NEW DELHI | June 25, 2025 Yes, you read that right. Despite 90% of Indians suffering from some form of dental problem, only 9% make it to a dentist.

According to a national survey during the Oral Health Movement (OHM) by Colgate-Palmolive India & the IDA, nearly 72% of the population is at risk of serious oral issues, and the average oral health score is just 2.6/5.

Screening over 4.5 million people across 700+ districts, the study also found 41% at high risk of cavities, 44% for gum disease, and 14% for staining.
