The Farmers’ Day programme concluded successfully at Vikas Bhawan, reinforcing the district administration’s commitment to addressing agriculture-related issues through direct engagement with farmers. Organised on the third Wednesday of every month, the initiative serves as a structured platform for dialogue between farmers and government officials. Held under the directions of the District Magistrate and chaired by Chief Development Officer Dr Shivakant Dwivedi, the meeting brought together progressive farmers from across Gautam Buddha Nagar. Farmers raised concerns and shared practical suggestions related to inputs, irrigation, and government schemes, ensuring that grassroots issues were placed directly before decision-makers.
Focus on Farmer Registry and Fertiliser Availability
Officials from the Agriculture Department conducted awareness sessions on the Farmer Registry, explaining its role in streamlining access to government benefits and improving service delivery. Emphasising preparedness for the cropping season, Dr Dwivedi directed those adequate stocks of fertilisers and urea must be maintained at all cooperative societies to prevent shortages. The District Agriculture Officer informed participants that fertilisers are available as per prescribed targets. At present, 3,590 metric tonnes of urea are stocked at sales centres across the district. Farmers were assured that supply chains are stable and that no fertiliser shortage is anticipated in the coming months.
Irrigation and Waterlogging Issues Addressed
Responding to local concerns, the Chief Development Officer instructed the Irrigation Department to take immediate action to resolve waterlogging problems in villages such as Khandera and Chholas. These directions aim to reduce crop damage and improve field conditions, particularly in low-lying areas.
On-the-Spot Resolution of Scheme-Related Issues
A key highlight of the programme was the on-the-spot resolution of farmer grievances. Issues related to the Farmer Registry and the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme were addressed during the meeting itself, providing immediate relief and reducing procedural delays. The event saw participation from officials of multiple departments, including Irrigation, Energy, and Agricultural Production, as well as representatives from Agriculture, Horticulture, Fisheries, Dairy Development, Animal Husbandry, and the Regional Manager of the Agricultural Insurance Company, ensuring a comprehensive and coordinated response.
Impact of Farmers’ Day Initiative
The Farmers’ Day programme has emerged as an effective governance mechanism for farmer grievance redressal, awareness building, and inter-departmental coordination. By ensuring direct interaction with senior officials, the initiative strengthens trust, improves policy implementation, and enhances access to essential agricultural services at the district level.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Deputy Director of Agriculture Rajeev Kumar expressed gratitude to farmers, officials, and staff, and formally announced the conclusion of the programme.
