- Uttar Pradesh has launched an ₹8,200 crore integrated solar manufacturing facility by SAEL Industries in Gautam Budh Nagar, featuring 5 GW solar cell and 5 GW solar module production capacity.
- The project is expected to create around 20,000 jobs (5,000 direct and 15,000 indirect), strengthening domestic solar manufacturing and supporting India’s renewable energy and self-reliance goals.
- Located in the YEIDA region, the facility will boost Uttar Pradesh’s position as a clean energy manufacturing hub while attracting further industrial investment to the Jewar corridor.
Gautam Budh Nagar, June 27, 2026: Uttar Pradesh’s ambitions to emerge as a major manufacturing destination for renewable energy equipment received a significant boost on June 27, when Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath laid the foundation stone for an ₹8,200 crore integrated solar manufacturing facility in the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) region of Gautam Buddh Nagar.
The project, being developed by SAEL Industries Ltd through its subsidiary SAEL Solar P6 Pvt Ltd, will establish an integrated manufacturing ecosystem comprising 5 gigawatts (GW) of solar cell production capacity and 5 GW of solar module manufacturing capacity. Spread across 200 acres in Sector 8 of the YEIDA region, the facility is expected to generate approximately 5,000 direct and 15,000 indirect jobs once operational.
Developing the Manufacturing Industry for Solar Power in India
The funding comes at an important moment for India’s renewable energy industry since even though the country has experienced a tremendous increase in the capacity for generating solar power over the last ten years, there is more focus now on developing domestic capacity to manufacture solar power equipment.
In the new facility in Uttar Pradesh, SAEL is going to manufacture high-efficiency TOPCon solar cells and modules which is becoming an increasingly popular technology around the world. After the facility starts operating, it will bring the total solar manufacturing capacity of SAEL to about 8.5 gigawatts. It has been noted by industry experts that although India has made great progress in developing solar module manufacturing capacity over the past few years, solar cell manufacturing capacity still needs to be developed.
According to the UP Government, the project will create approximately 5,000 jobs directly and 15,000 indirectly and will help achieve the industrial and renewable energy goals of the state. Addressing the gathering on this occasion, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath remarked about India’s focus on renewables and energy security under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that the country has been making efforts to develop itself through renewable energy and sustainable development in recent times.
According to the Chief Minister, the state of UP is making rapid progress in developing its renewable energy capacities and plans to enhance its position in the future in this sector. He also mentioned the schemes for solar energy usage, biofuel production, compressed biogas (CBG) production, and ethanol production in his remarks.
This is also a result of the increasing significance of the Jewar area in terms of being an emerging industrial and infrastructure cluster. Apart from the forthcoming Noida International Airport in the area, various investments have been made in the area for electronics manufacturing, logistics, garments, and other industrial activities. The establishment of a solar manufacturing plant is going to increase the variety of industries operating in the area.

The government of the state pointed out that Uttar Pradesh has launched many sector-wise policies in order to encourage investments in the state and has created the necessary industrial infrastructure.
This move towards setting up domestic manufacturing facilities for solar cells and modules is consistent with the efforts of the country toward improving domestic manufacturing capacities in line with India’s plans to develop clean energy and become self-reliant. As India moves forward to increase its renewable energy capacity, domestic manufacturing facilities are likely to play an important role in the process.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by state ministers, elected members, officials from the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority, and top officials from SEL Solar Industries Limited, including Chairman Jasbir Singh and Managing Director Sukhbir Singh.
Renewable Energy and Industrial Aspirations
The country has adopted a high-aspiration plan to generate more renewable energy and build manufacturing capability within its borders over the coming decade. In addition to developing solar installations, authorities also aimed to build an ecosystem of manufacturers for solar cells and modules using production-linked incentives and domestic content obligations.
In Uttar Pradesh, the SAEL project goes beyond being merely an industrial project for the state, as it demonstrates its intentions in becoming a manufacturing hub amidst the clean energy revolution taking place in India while also creating jobs and building industry infrastructure.
With rising competition among Indian states to lure investments in new-age industries, projects like the SAEL solar cell manufacturing plant can play a vital part in shaping India’s renewable energy supply chain.
