Gujarat Board to Modernise Computer Curriculum After 13 Years

Students attending computer class in a Gujarat Board school after curriculum update

After over a decade, change is arriving in Gujarat’s school tech classes. Outdated material gives way to fresh ideas shaped by how students now use computers. A long-overdue shift takes form in Ahmedabad. New lessons reflect what actually happens on screens these days.

Outdated Syllabus Draws Criticism#

Outdated lessons stick around in Gujarat classrooms. Tech once modern – like 3G – is still part of what’s taught. Instead of fresh tools, students face pages on HTML, C++, and basic Linux. While change speeds up elsewhere, these courses feel frozen. Education lags when experts stress relevance in fast-moving fields

Worries grew among teachers and parents – students weren’t gaining vital tech abilities useful for work or college. Updates in computing move fast, one reason it lags behind elsewhere in school curriculum.According to a report by The Times of India, the Gujarat board’s computer syllabus had remained unchanged for over 13 years, even as digital technologies evolved rapidly across education and industry.

New Curriculum from 2026–27#

Starting in 2026–27, fresh computer course material arrives on school desks. This shift kicks off with students in Grade 9 and also those entering Class 11. By the next phase, learners in tenth grade see changes – same goes for twelfth graders – not before 2027–28

A fresh look at the course material puts new tech front and center. Expect updates covering recent tools, woven throughout the sections

What’s happening now fits into worldwide shifts in how tech is taught. This shift tries to prepare learners for coming roles in technology, also deeper learning later on.

Closer to National Standards#

One reason for adjusting things? To bring Gujarat’s school tech courses in line with nationwide systems such as those from CBSE and NCERT. Since these bodies revise material often as technology shifts, the updated course plan in Gujarat will move at the same pace. Expect consistency where updates once lagged behind

Officials from the board pointed out that updating things could give learners a stronger chance when measured against others across the country or overseas. A fresh set of abilities tied to tech jobs was called necessary, they added, if young people want to step into future roles with confidence.

Textbook Overhaul Across Subjects#

A fresh wave of updates hits more than just computer classes. Beginning June 2026, students from Class 1 through 11 will see roughly 28 updated or entirely new textbooks. Math, social science, and English are among the topics included. Regional languages also make an appearance in the rollout

Some teachers like the new textbooks. When older ones get updated, lessons make more sense – also, they match how things are now. What matters is that students see connections.

A Long-Awaited Step#

After long pushes by teachers and specialists, the board finally acted. For quite some time, people saw the outdated curriculum as an obstacle to picking up modern tech abilities. Learning actual computer subjects just got more within reach for learners

Some parents, along with educators, are glad about the update. Because they believe it helps kids get ready for jobs later on, contests involving technology, plus chances to study more – both here and overseas.
